Rajasthan secured 8th rank while Jaipur 39th in the Swachh Survekshan (survey) 2018. The results of the first pan-Indian exercise to assess cleanliness in urban India were declared in Indore on Saturday by Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs. Udaipur has been placed at 85th position. The survey was carried in 4,203 cities from January 4 to March 10, 2018, with two Madhya Pradesh cities – Indore and Bhopal – being ranked first and second respectively. Chandigarh moved from 11th rank (2017) to third this year.

As a part of the Swachh Survekshan 2018, total marks for assessment were increased to 4,000, from 2,000 in last year’s survey. Category wise assessment of open defecation free (ODF) progress, collection and transportation of solid waste and processing of solid waste saw their respective weightages being increased in this year Swachh Survekshan. Similar to last year’s survey, the results for Swachh Survekshan 2018 involved data submitted by civic bodies on cleanliness and sanitation, as well as feedback from the citizens.

Jaipur secured 2,971 points while Udaipur 2623. In the survey last year, Jaipur was ranked 215th while Rajasthan was 29th. The massive leap in the ranking achieved by Jaipur was result of numerous steps like the ban on use of polythene bags and keeping two dustbins out of the shop and institutions to reduce the garbage on the streets. Apart from this, cleanliness awards and other innovations have been done.
