Four kids, who were among the 70 children freed from the “illegally-run” Emmanuel society orphanage in Raipura area of Kota city last week were missing from the Karni Vikas Samiti’s shelter home. The shelter home at Gordhanpura falls under the Gumanpura police station of the city.

Child Welfare Committee (CWC) was informed by the management of Karni Vikas Samiti’s shelter home about the escape of four children, all in the age group of 12 to 15 years and belonging to North–East states, CWC chairman Harish Gurbakxani said. The police, however, have not lodged any case in this connection so far as they are waiting for a formal report to be lodged by shelter home’s management.

The four kids were not found with other kids at the shelter home where they had been sent to sleep last night. They reportedly escaped in the night, sources said. The kids were among the 70 children who were freed on Saturday from the Emmanuel society orphanage.

The CWC chairman alleged that the superintendent of police, Kota city, was on the same day of their rescue and rehabilitation on May 19 was through an email asked to take up measures to secure the kids at shelter home, but no steps were taken. It is suspected that the escape of the four kids was pre-planned as their family members had reached Kota yesterday and they submitted memorandum to Kota district collector in noon against the action carried out by CWC to free the kids.

When contacted, Gumanpura station police admitted to have received the information about kids’ escape, but claimed they have not received a report in the matter.
