Four Rajasthan cops to faceaction over extortion

A case of policemen being part of a blackmailing and extortion gang has come to light in Bikaner. The cops in association with a woman would fleece victims by threatening to involve them in molestation cases. The policemen would strip the victims and take their pictures with the woman to blackmail.

Departmental action has been initiated against the policemen. Three constables have been suspended and a station in-charge has been sent to lines by the Bikaner SP.

The woman accomplice would take lift from victims and call the police while sitting in their vehicle.

Three constables of the chowki were caught red-handed accepting money from three youth. Further a search in their mobiles brought forth nude pictures that they had clicked of the victims with the girl. There were pictures of several other victims too. The ACB arrested head constable Shivram, constables Rakesh Swami and Devilal Meghwal. "We had received a complaint and raided the police chowki and arrested three policemen. Their mobiles were also confiscated," said ACB DySP Rajendra Gidharia.

The matter came to light when three youth from Sriganganagar district were travelling along National Highway 62 on which falls the Jaitsar chowki where the accused constables were posted. They offered lift to a girl who stopped the car close to the Jaitsar chowki on some pretext.

The policemen accosted the youth and took them into illegal custody claiming that the girl had filed a molestation complaint against them. As the boys did not have money on them they held on to two and sent the third one home to get it. The boy complained to the Anti Corruption Department (ACB) at Sriganganagar and matter was handed to ACB DySP Rajendra Gidharia who raided the chowki.

In further investigation Bikaner SP Sawai Singh Godara found the connivance and patronage of the Mahajan station incharge digpal Singh Charan in the offence and he has been sent to lines.

After the arrest of the accused policemen; victims of two more cases have come forward to register their complaints. The gang had been functional over the last three months and extorted money from several persons including bus operators, truck drivers and personal vehicle owners.
