Flood-like situation: Over dozen districts record 20% above normal rainfall in Rajasthan

Rajasthan has been witnessing heavy monsoon rains for some time now leading to flood-like situation in some parts of the state. In fact, rainfall continues to lash most parts of the state with the last 24 hours witnessing some heavy rainfall.

Till Sunday, more than a dozen districts in the state including Sawai Madhopur, Bikaner, Jaipur, Bharatpur, Pratapgarh, Kota and Sikar have recorded 20 per cent more than normal rainfall. Sawai Madhopur saw three digit rains to the tune of 667 mm, Pratapgarh 464 mm, Bharatpur 256 mm, Jaipur 230 mm and Bikaner 223 mm. As per the weathermen at local MeT office, during the next 24 hours, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in many parts of the East Rajasthan and West Rajasthan.

As per the MeT department records, overall in the state, till July 22, total 186.1 mm rainfall has been recorded which is 27 per cent more than the normal rainfall of 147 mm. MeT has issued warning that very to heavy rains may occur in isolated places of the state during next 24 hours. 

During the last 24 hours Bikaner and Sawai Madhopur received heavy downpour resulting in flood-like situation. Bholasar, Akkasar and Meghasar villages in Bikaner were left inundated due to heavy rainfall. As per reports, around 15,000 people of these villages got stuck in isolation as every connection to the headquarter from these villages was lost due to rains. These rains also devastated the crop as thousand of bighas of farmland got drowned in rainwater. 

Despite the good monsoon rains in the state, there are more than half-a-dozen districts which have recorded less than normal rains so far. Barmer recorded 16 per cent less than normal rainfall while Ajmer, Bundi, Hanumangarh and Jalore are among the districts awaiting good rains this monsoon.
