A major fire broke out in a godown during the wee hours of Tuesday resulting in massive loss of property. Peanuts was stored in the godown located at Vishwakarma Industrial Area (VKI) which continued to burn for long and made it difficult for the fire department to extinguish the flames.
However, it was after two hours that the fire could be completely doused and an investigation into what triggered outbreak of the incident has been initiated.
The fire broke out at around 3.30am on Tuesday. “The godown is located on road number twelve in the industrial area and several quintals of peanut was stored in the godown. The security guards and labourers at nearby installations saw fire and smoke bellowing out of the godown and immediately alerted the local police,” the police officials said.
The police informed the fire department about the incident while a team from VKI police station rushed to the spot. “Fire fighters immediately started their bid to douse the fire. One after the other four tenders were rushed to the spot which did multiple rounds. The fire fight lasted for over two hours after which the fire could be doused completely,” the police added.
The peanuts stored at the godown were gutted completely. “The damage could be in lakhs. The exact idea of the damage will be made after assessment. The reason for outbreak is not yet known, but the investigation is underway. More can be said when investigation ends,” officials said.
