The farmers showed their power to prime minister Narendra Modi in three Assembly elections held in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh where Congress formed the government, said Congress president Rahul Gandhi while addressing a farmers’ rally at Vidhyadhar Nagar Stadium.

In the first rally, after Congress formed the government in Rajasthan, Rahul also promised to waive farm loans in every state if the Congress is voted to power in 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

“In the elections the farmers have shown their strength to Modi. Now India’s farmers and youths should bat on the front foot and hit sixers. Modi has been playing, for four years, on back foot after making promises,” said Rahul while adding that Modi government will have to waive farmers’ loans, otherwise the Congress will come to power and waive the loans.

The Gandhi scion asserted that farmers’ loan waiver is just a single step and it will be followed by more welfare schemes. “Waiving off loans will not solve the problem, but it is the first step that the Congress has taken it. We will work with full spirit. We can never forget the love you people have shown us,” said Rahul.

Showing dream of Harit Kranti (Green Revolution) after 30 years, the Congress chief said that Congress government would work on a plan, making the financial condition of farmers robust.

“The food and fruits grown on your fields must be served on the dining plate globally. There is a requirement to make a strategy towards this direction. We will implement the strategy in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh.

Food processing units and mega food park will be established on fields itself. Thus the farmers will be linked to global economy,” said Rahul.

He asked people to tell the party leaders ‘mann ki baat’. “We won’t tell you our mann ki baat...Congress’s victory is the victory of the people, farmers, youth and women. People of Rajasthan are the masters, Congress will serve them.”
