The battle between Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) president Dr CP Joshi and Ruchir Modi on Friday disrupted the election of the Baran District Cricket Association. The bone of contention was the present DCA Baran secretary Ramesh Gupta, whose election has been declared ‘void ab initio’ by RCA president Joshi.

However, RCA secretary R.S. Nandu in a letter to Joshi claimed that Gupta has been secretary since 2014, which has been recognised by the RCA.

Unruly scenes were witnessed at the election venue as slogan-shouting between two rival factions forced the change in the venue. The election process was to be held from 10am to 5pm but due to confusion the observer could not reach the venue. Nandu, in his letter accused Joshi of pressuring the observer and even alleged that he was kidnapped and a police report in this regard has been filed.

The situation took a serious turn when people gathered outside the new venue and tried to enter the premises. However, they were stopped by the police and Gupta and other members of his group were escorted to safety by the police.

Meanwhile, Mehmood Abdi, president of the Sriganganagar District Cricket Association, in a press release has accused Joshi of playing ‘dirty tricks’ and added that his threatened the election officer and restrained him from conducting his duties.

Abdi said Gupta as the secretary has been voting in all elections including the one which elected Joshi as President. Name of Gupta still figures in the list of valid DCA secretaries recognised by Justcie Gyan Sudha Mishra, Ombudsman of Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) under the Lodha Committee recommendations, he added.
