Passengers using Jaipur Junction will soon get one more facility in the form of escalator at the second entry exit gate of the railway station in the new year.
The escalator work is almost complete and soon, few more things are being done to make it ready.
Sources inform that in January, the inauguration of this facility may be done though a final date is yet not fixed. The escalator would start near the stairside after the passenger crosses the baggage scanning portion of the railway station from the second entry point.
It will take you to the bridge which connects various platforms of the station.
The facility will be a boon for the passengers who have to carry heavy baggage through the stairs. Using an escalator would ease the burden henceforth.
As DNA correspondent visited the railway station, the work of escalator was seen towards completion. While people, many of whom were senior citizens were seen carrying their luggage with difficulty.
This escalator will be the fourth such escalator on the railway station. While one is at the main entrance gate near the previous meter gauge line opening , another one is located between platform number 2 and 3. There is a third one between platform number 4 and 5 .
Sources informed that earlier the budget of an escalator was slated to be around 55 lakhs. However, there may have been some changes in it due to cost escalation factor.
Notably, the fourth escalator one was planned in this financial year itself. Suresh Prabhu who was railway minister till recently, had come to Jaipur in the month of June, when he had made announcement in this regard. This addition will be a great help for the passengers coming from the second entry exit point. Thousands of passengers living in colonies like Jhotwara, C-Scheme, Civil Lines, New Sanganer Road, Sodala , Tonk road and large part of outer colonies of Jaipur use the second gate.
