Even as the state gets ready for the IPL bonanza, it's payback time. The scene behind the glitz and glamour will come to the fore even as SMS stadium sets it's date with the first match!

As we talk of payback time, the Jaipur Police Commissionerate has enough reasons to cheer as it expects to receive a booty from the authorities.

Over the years, the Jaipur Police had provided security at the venue and to the teams during the tournament for which the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) and the Rajasthan Royals (RR) had to pay money for the services. However, a whopping Rs 6.13 crore is due!

After a suspension of two years, Rajasthan Royals are set to step onto Sawai Man Singh Stadium. Elaborating on the due amount, highly placed sources in the Jaipur Commissionerate said an amount of Rs 6,13,08,326 was due. “The authorities were to pay Jaipur Police for the security cover between 2008 and 2013. Since no matches were played here after 2013, security was not needed.”

The Jaipur Commissionerate charged Rs 4000 per cop during these tournaments. Multiplying this by 1200 cops comes to Rs 48 lakh per match. “However, the RR management got the amount decreased to around Rs 10 lakh per match by contacting the Home department,” officials said.

Even though the amount was decreased, no payment was made to the Jaipur Police.

If a 10 % interest is charged on the principal amount of 6,13,08,326 since 2013 every year an amount of 61,30,832.6 becomes due as interest for the outstanding amount. And adding 5 years interest - since 2013 when the matches were not played and the money remained unpaid - the interest amount comes to 3,06,54,163 (Rs 3, 65, 4163). Adding this to the original due amount and the Commissionerate could demand a whopping Rs 9.19 crore.

Interestingly, although such a huge amount is due, the Commissionerate hasn't not received any request from government or the organizing authorities till now to arrange for security. “There has been no communication so far to provide security for this year. We believe a letter in this regard should reach the Commissionerate in the coming weeks,” officials said.
