The ongoing “Zameen Samadhi Satyagrah” at Ninder continues to garner support from political and social corridors. On its 22nd day,  the demonstration was visited by former assembly speaker Sumitra Singh and representatives of several social organisations. The former speaker came down heavily on state government’s apathy towards the agitating farmers

“It’s appalling that the farmers are compelled to stand in living graves and the government continues to ignore the protest taking place at state capital,” said Sumitra Singh assuring her support to the agitating farmers.

There are over 1350 men and women staging Satyagrah at Ninder against acquisition of land by Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) for a mega residential scheme in the area. These farmers stand in pits in reflection of their attachment to the land, meanwhile the authority claims to have it acquired years ago. Talks between the representatives of agitating farmers and government authorities on the issue have been on hold inconclusively and now the JDA is expected to proceed with forcefully taking possession of the acquired land.

The agitating farmers are though resolve to fight against any such move. “We have asked for a re-survey of the area, the government is shying away from it because a realistic survey will counter the claims made by JDA while acquiring the land,” says Nagendra Singh Shekhawat, leader of the agitating farmers.  The JDA has planned a mega residential scheme at Ninder for which 1350 bighas of land has been acquired.
