Rajasthan government is providing English tutorials through mobile applications, along with offline classes, in order to increase the confidence among college students, said Kiran Maheshwari, minister of higher and technical education.
Maheshwari, while addressing the Campus Ambassador Conclave of UPER (Upskill Proficiency in English for Rajasthan) at MNIT on Tuesday, said that most of the students studying in state-based colleges come from several villages. They find it difficult to present themselves, despite having talents, due to inefficiency in English.
“The government is trying to create an atmosphere of English in all the state colleges to overcome their hesitation, so that the students are confident and do not lag behind during the private and government job interviews. The students should also make efforts to support the cause,” Maheshwari said.
She further informed that apart from the mobile app “Hello English”, the higher education department has tied up with Noida-based ‘English Age’. The company will be taking three-month offline english courses in various state colleges. As many as 12 female colleges, and two polytechnic colleges have also been selected for this course, which will be free of cost for the students.
Additional chief secretary, Rajhans Upadhyay, also said the state government is making a concerted effort so that the students studying in the college become job providers and not job seekers.
“We are teaching students not English but a skill which will work as support after completing their education,” said Ashutosh Pandeykar, college education commissioner.
He said that by learning English, our students will now be able to see their future in many areas like BPO, IT. Furthermore, Dishari app has been introduced to help students prepare for competitive examinations at home.
Moving with times
Apart from the mobile application ‘Hello English’, the higher education department has tied up with Noida-based ‘English Age’.
The company will be taking three-month offline english courses. With this app, students can prepare without having to go anywhere or spend money.
