The by-election for the post of Jaipur mayor will be on Tuesday. There is a possibility that the BJP candidate will be elected unopposed in the by-polls and the party will announce its candidate on Tuesday morning right before the nomination.

BJP’s 60 councillors stayed in a resort at Ajmer Road on the second day.

BJP’s state vice president and Jaipur district in-charge Rajendra Gehlot and state spokesman and MLA Satish Poonia asked each councillor about the probable candidate for the by-polls. All councillors have authorised the party fully for the candidate selection.

Councillors raised their hands and said that the party will decide the name of any councillor they want for the post and in the meeting, it was decided that the party candidate for the by-election will be announced on Tuesday morning at 9 o’clock in the resort. After that, the BJP candidate will go to the Jaipur Municipal Corporation headquarters and file nomination.

Earlier, there were few dramatic developments in the resort. BJP councillors of Adarsh Nagar, Hawa Mahal and Kishanpole assembly constituency opposed Deputy Mayor Manoj Bhardwaj. According to sources, they said that during the tenure of deputy mayor Bharadwaj, the party lost the election on three assembly seats of the Walled City. How can the party be strengthened by making Bharadwaj the mayor? The party may have to suffer a loss in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

BJP’s councillors have prepared a memorandum against deputy mayor and 33 of them signed this memorandum. When the city president Sanjay Jain got the information about this incident, he warned the BJP councillors of disciplinary action. After this warning, the councillors did not hand over the memorandum to the party leaders. According to sources, deputy and acting mayor Manoj Bhardwaj may be BJP’s candidate for the by-elections as the party has almost decided upon him.

In 2008, the BJP made the then deputy mayor Pankaj Joshi its mayor candidate for the by-election.
