There is bad news for commuters travelling by Volvo and Scania buses to Delhi. In a major blow to the Rajasthan government, the Supreme Court has directed Rajasthan Roadways to stop operating these buses from Bikaner House, near India Gate. The order will be effective from May 1, 2018.
The division bench of Justice Madan B Lokur and Justice Deepak Gupta said that to avoid pollution around India Gate area, learned counsel appearing for Rajasthan said he would like to take necessary instructions so that plying of buses of buses originating or terminating at Bikaner House, near India Gate, New Delhi, is stopped with effect from May 1.
“We are examining the Supreme Court decision. We will be able to say about the future course of action only after we get a firm legal opinion,” said a top official of Rajasthan Roadways.
The court had in its earlier hearing in the first week of March had given three weeks time to the Rajasthan government to file an affidavit over the movement of passenger buses from Bikaner house which is just 1 km from India gate in a matter pertaining to pollution from buses operating from Bikaner House.

The order means that these buses, which are extremely popular among passengers commuting between Jaipur and Delhi, will now have to find another place to pick up its passengers.
The buses start from 5:30 am with a bus every hour till 12 midnight.
Sources said that Roadways will now explore possibilities of operating the Volvo and Scania bus service from Sarai Kale Khan in the coming week.
