Even as the voter turnout takes a little dip, the Bharatiya Janata Party remains confident on the voting figures. It has been the ability to have drawn the voter to booth that keeps their victory hopes alive even as most exit polls predict of its loss.

“We had a clear focus to get maximum of our supporters to cast their votes, the voting figures reflect that we have succeeded in that direction,” says a senior BJP leader.

Rajasthan has witnessed a record voting in the previous assembly elections and the BJP to have claimed 45.17 per cent of the total votes cast went on to become vitorious in 163 of 200 assembly constituencies. The party’s success was majorly attributed to ‘Modi wave’ that has helped the party to draw support from traditional vote banks of its opponent Congress.

The opposition party has been counting on anti-incumbency against the BJP chief minister Vasundhara Raje and diminishing returns of the ‘Modi wave’. Congress leaders during the campaign in the state had specifically attempted to enrage the discontent towards the chief minister and undermining Narendra Modi’s performance as prime minister.

Where the Congress had been counting on the anti-incumbency votes to do the trick for it, it had also expected many of the dejected BJP voters to remain disinterested in voting.

“Congress had only 33 per cent of the total vote share in the last elections conducted in 2013. Even if it is lucky to get 3 per cent of anti-incumbency votes it still will sail behind us on most seats,” claims another BJP leader.

The BJP has been able to develop a class of dedicated voters over the past few elections. The cadre-based approach has helped it in the past to tide over the Congress in state.

The party has been counting to draw upon their support while exploring new supporters among beneficiaries of government schemes, which the state government has been brandishing at every chance available.

With prime minister Narendra Modi as the foremost brand ambassador, the party candidates had sought votes on Modi’s name. The party also engaged with its voters on the social media to develop psychological pressure on its supporters to come out and vote.
