Both BJP and Congress are currently undertaking yatras as pre-poll outreach effort. While CM Vasundhara Raje along with senior leaders is on Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra to take feedback of the works done by her government while Congress top brass is on a Sankalp Yatra to come back to power.

While BJP has undertaken an elaborate route, Congress is holding the yatras on a smaller scale at division level. Much to the excitement of both parties, their yatras are being received by huge crowds. But at the same time there is no denying the fact that ticket seekers can claim a lot of credit for the crowds that are lining up to meet the yatras at welcome points and in public meetings. For the ticket seekers, it is an opportunity to exhibit their acceptability among the public. They have adopted the strategy of ferrying crowds to the welcome points and public meetings that fall along the yatra route. They put up huge posters along the route of the constituency they are staking claim to.

Further, the crowd of supporters intermittently raises slogans in favour of the party, leadership and the ticket seeking leader who has brought them. The challenge is to get noticed; seen and heard.

“The Congress is coming to power and it is the best time to seek a ticket. While I will use all means to my disposal, the yatra travelling in my area has given me an added opportunity to register my presence,” said a Congress leader.

Within the BJP there is concern among the current MLAs due to a possibility of most of the legislators getting dropped. This has also made them put in all out efforts to showcase their popularity, “Yes, there is pressure among us to show our hold over our constituency. But obviously, there are many who want to stake claim to my seat and I am concerned,” said an MLA on condition of anonymity.

Moreover, there is concern within parties at organisation level due to multiple claimants coming up for every seat.
