Who will call the shots in the affairs of upcoming Assembly elections in Rajasthan has been clearly communicated with the formation of the poll committees declared on Thursday night. A close look at the list shows that PCC chief Sachin Pilot’s men have got posts as heads of crucial committees while AICC general secretary Ashok Gehlot’s men have been kept limited to ‘superficial’ committees.

Pilot has been appointed as chairman of the Pradesh Election Committee, a panel entrusted with the election process from top to the bottom in Rajasthan. Leader of the Opposition Rameshwar Dudi and Ramesh Meena, a close aide of Pilot, have been made co-chairman and convener of the committee respectively. Surprisingly, AICC general secretary and former Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, who is a two-time CM and has a career spanning over 40 years in active politics has been appointed as just a member of the committee. Needless to say Pilot has been given a free hand in the election affairs here. On the other hand Gehlot has been assigned to head the coordination committee which is tasked to monitor works of nine committees that were announced on Thursday. Its members will be the head of the committees which will work independently, decide and report to the party high command directly. It looks like that the two-time CM will be just a bridge among them. The campaign committee, one of most powerful body in planning the polls, has got its chairman in the form of Ajmer MP Raghu Sharma. In Ajmer bypoll when Pilot decided not to contest election, he bet on Sharma and campaigned aggressively for him. Incidentally Sharma is an ex-Gehlot loyalist.

In 2013, the campaign committee was headed by AICC general secretary CP Joshi, a professor turn politician, who keeps hold in Udaipur division. This time too, it was speculated that Joshi would be assigned the task again in Rajasthan election after he was divested from states incharge assignments at the national level. Though, Rahul preferred to bet on Sharma, a much junior to Joshi, and later has been asked to head publication and publicity campaign, a lesser important panel.

Govind Singh Dotasara the head of media and communication committee, Parsadi lal Meena the head of transport and accommodation committee have been appointed and they are pro-Gehlot.
