In last 1 year, many steps of mayor were praised by the people, but still questions are being raised on his team management
On December 13, last year, BJP took a surprising decision and Nirmal Nahata resigned from the post of Mayor and next day Ashok Lahoti was made the new Mayor of Jaipur. The BJP changed the face of the Mayor in the city. But the problems of the public are still prevailing. Lahoti has not been able to convene meetings of the board on time and formed the functioning committees in a year.
Lahoti’s one year term was can be called form as “One Man Show”.The main reason for the removal of Nahata from the mayor was the death of cows in Hingonias Gaushala, the annoyance of the BJP councilors and meeting of the board did not convene time to time. When Lohoti was made Mayor on December 14, 2016, BJP officials said that now the board meeting of the municipal corporation will be on time and committees will be formed soon. But this did not happen in a year. Compared to the Nirmal Nahata’s tenure, in the last one year, the factionalism and inaction of BJP councilors have increased. The Mayor convened only two meetings in last one year.
Functioning committees of the municipal corporation were not formed. That is why the JMC related works of the public are not taking place. Lahoti has made several and admirable decisions to make herself the most successful mayor of the city. Lahoti started the Mayor Jan Sunwai program. In the zone area, the mayor heard the problems of the public and tried to settle them.
The use of polythene bags in the city was restricted which brought some improvements. Similarly, the inevitability of keeping two dustbins out of the shop and institutions was implemented. The Mayor renovated the JMC headquarters. Lahoti introduced the compulsion of singing National Anthem and National Song and biometric system for developing work culture at JMC.
The controversy that started between Lahoti and JMC Commissioner Ravi Jain last month also affected the functioning of the JMC.
