The impact of the Assembly elections is being seen in Diwali decoration in Jaipur this time. Traders of the Walled City will be motivating Jaipur residents to vote by installing election-themed gates and decoration of the markets. Johari Bazaar is among the bazaars that shall be decorated to the poll theme, while the Kishanpol Bazaar will reflect how a Smart City bazaar looks like.

City traders decorate the main markets of Walled City displaying special themes on Diwali every year. The tradition of decorating the city’s markets on Diwali was started almost 38 years ago. The then Chief Minister Bhairon Singh Shekhawat initiated the traders into decorating the bazaars to promote city’s tourism.

Now, the Diwali decoration of Jaipur is famous all over the world. Every year, lakhs of tourists visit Jaipur to see the Diwali lights and decorations. “Last year around 20 lakh people had come to see the Diwali decoration in Walled City. The Diwali decoration of markets has become the identity of Jaipur. This decoration is not for the traders themselves but for the tourists. This is the reason why the state government cooperates with traders in decoration,” said Anand Maherwal, General Secretary of Kishanpol Bazaar Vyapar Mandal.

Just like the pandals of Durga Puja, this time every market is being decorated to a different theme. Decoration has already begun in some markets. The city’s main market MI Road will showcase the traditional heritage theme of Jaipur. The Chandpol Bazaar is being decorated on the theme of “Devlok”.

Last year, Johari Bazaar was decorated on the Surgical Strike theme.

This time the theme of the Johari Bazaar is “voting”. Johari Bazaar Vyapar Mandal president Ajay Agarwal told DNA that “the assembly elections will be held on December 7. That’s why we are decorating the market on the voting theme this time. Lakhs of people come to see the Diwali decoration, so we will motivate people to vote through decoration. We will send a message that every person should use the right to vote”.

Under the Smart City Project, the Kishanpol Bazaar is being developed as a smart market. Inspired by the Smart City Project, Kishanpol Bazaar’s theme shall also showcase a smart city. The public will get a glimpse of the smart city in the Kishanpol market decoration. “The state government has selected the Kishanpol Bazaar for the smart city project. It’s a matter of pride for us. We are decorating Kishanpol Bazaar on smart city theme. Through decoration, we will tell people how a smart city market should be?”, Said Anand Maharwal. An 80-foot-wide and 50-feet high ship will be built at the Chotti Chaupar, the entrance of the market. On this ship, movable statues of other Gods including Lord Ganesh will be seen”, Subhas Goyal, president of Chandpol Bazaar Vyapar Mandal.

Similarly, MI Road will be decorated on Heritage theme. Eight Heritage Entrance Gates will be temporarily built on MI Road. All heritage buildings will be decorated with LED.
