Disheartened, monk bobbitises self in Rajasthan

At a time when godmen and religious gurus are being put behind bars for exploiting women, one sanyasi (monk) did the unthinkable when locals alleged him of having an illicit relationship with a woman. The monk, who bobbitized himself, was hospitalised in Churu district of Rajasthan on Tuesday.

"An Ashram, by the name of Haridas Ashram, is located in ward seven of Tara Nagar. Amongst the man monks living at the Ashram, one 30-year-old Santoshdas, used to frequent a house near the ashram. However, this irked a few locals as the man used to meet a woman there" officials said.

On Tuesday morning, a local held Santoshdas when he was visiting the woman. "One Pawan Singh called locals and gathered a crowd in front of the house. The mob alleged that the sanyasi was having an illicit relationship with the woman. The monk, who was shocked by the allegations, reached the ashram wand bobbitized himself" officials said.

"The monk was rushed to a local hospital at Churu. However, due to lack of proper facilities, he was shifted to Bikaner. He is out of danger now. No complaint has been made in this regard. A police team will reach Bikaner on Wednesday to record the monk's statements," officials said.
