Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Gajendra Singh Shekhawat who made headlines as the most likely choice for the BJP state president, on Monday said, “I was neither involved in the race for the state head nor did I show any desire to be a candidate for the post. However, if the national leadership entrusts the responsibility on me, then I will carry it with full sincerity.”

He said that the BJP is a democratic party and appointment to any post is done according to the rules of the party.

At present, Shekhawat has been given the responsibility for the Karnataka elections and he is focusing on ensuring the BJP’s victory there. He said, “I want to serve the state as well as the country.”

Shekhawat came back to Jodhpur after returning from Greece. He added, “I am very fortunate that the Prime Minister gave me a chance to go to Greece. This will increase cooperation between both the countries and will ensure progress. Anyway, our relationship with Greece is centuries old. The President will also visit Greece in June. I have studied the scheme which has been set aside for the farmers there. We may implement the plan for India too.”

Meanwhile, Ashok Parnami had resigned on April 16 and since then the BJP president’s post has remained vacant. After Shekhawat’s name appeared as a possible candidate for the state president, a camp of the state BJP stood in favour of him. He is being lobbied on the social media. Several BJP functionaries have formed a Shekhawat WhatsApp group. In such a situation, since Shekhawat’s name was not considered, factionalism in the party started. The party’s workers are keenly waiting for a name so that they can form organisational executives at all polling booths.
