Desi name for bullet train

The ambitious project is being developed with technical and financial help from Japan.

Minister of state for Railways was quick to react when asked about the high-speed bullet train. Though he is the crucial man behind implementation of PM Modi’s flagship hi-speed Mumbai-Ahmedabad train project, he is still searching for an appropriate ‘Desi’ nomenclature for the ambitious project. 

“As of now it is known as hi-speed train and we are looking for an Indian name for the same,” he answered with pun when asked about ‘bullet train’ in India at ‘New India 2017’ Conclave of Zee Hindustan. 

It is, however, not just the name that the minister wishes to be indigenous about. The ambitious project is being developed with technical and financial help from Japan. “The loan from Japan is indeed a help considering the 0.01 per cent interest and payback period of 50 years. We are working in direction of developing the technology within the country,” said Sinha. 

The minister also stressed on the efforts of the present government in improving the existing train networks. Also, the local impact on Rajasthan stating that the railways have allocated projects of Rs 3400 crore for the state this year multiple times more than Rs 700-800 crores being allocated annually by previous government. 

On fast track

  • Also, a minister of state (independent charge) at Modi government, Sinha presented the plan of putting India’s telecommunication on fast track. “India has lagged behind in implementation of 2G and 3G telecom technology, however, we will be among the foremost nations to adopt 5G technology in 2020,” he said. 
  • The minister on the occasion informed the gathering on funds of ‘Rs 145 crore being allocated to IIT at Chennai for development of 5 generation technology’. In his plans for digital rise the minister ensured trust on the state promoted telecommunication company BSNL. He said that BSNL has proved its relevance by providing network support during crucial times of ‘demonitization’ and ‘GST implementation’ and expressed confidence of BSNL gaining furthermore popularity as mobile phone service provider with dedicated efforts of its employees.
