PK Mishra, Additional Principal Secretary at the Prime Minister Office (PMO), promised to look into the matter of Central University of Rajasthan, whose students have been on hunger strike from the last four days.

Mishra, who was the chief guest at the fourth convocation ceremony of the university, said that he was not aware of the all the mishap taking place at the institution and has assured assistance.

It is to be noted that students of the Kishangarh-based university have gone on an indefinite hunger strike demanding resignation of the vice chancellor of the university, who they accuse of indulging corrupt practices.

About 300 students went on a hunger strike on Monday to protest against the university while the ceremony proceeded peacefully inside the campus.

“He has hired teachers who had been rusticated from Central University of Jharkhand two years ago and were rejected from CU Raj. How can they be eligible now? Also, as many as 43 posts have been give to teachers from Odisha. He thinks himself to be very powerful as he has connections in PMO. We are children of army men and are being troubled without any reason,” said Yadvendra Singh Shekhawat, MA student.

Shekhawat said that he was arrested by the local police on Sunday without giving any specific reason. “DSW of the university is threatening to fail students in the examinations if they continue the strike,” Shekhawat added.

His entry was barred by the university “keeping in view the safety and security measures” during the convocation ceremony.

As many as 486 students received their degrees, while 22 were given gold medals for their meritorious performance during the convocation ceremony.
