AICC general secretary CP Joshi, who was recently divested from the charge of West Bengal and Andaman Nicobar, may become head of Congress campaign committee which is being formed on the lines of Madhya Pradesh. If Joshi gets the post then he would emerge as the third power centre in the state, which currently revolves around AICC general secretary (organisation) and two-time CM Ashok Gehlot and RPCC chief Sachin Pilot.

The sources in the party informed that the party high command has started the process to finalise the names for campaign committee chief, head of election coordination committee, working presidents and publicity committee.

Castes and regions definitely will play an important role in finalising the heads of these committee.

“Among them, most important is the head of election campaign committee. The leader heading the committee will be a senior-most leader playing a key role in everything related to election be it ticket distribution or planning rallies etc. The manner in which Joshi has been divested from the charge of West Bengal, Andaman Nicobar and Bihar, it appears the high command may rope him in to appease Brahmins,” said a senior leader.

The sources also hinted that if Joshi becomes campaign committee head then there would be three contenders for the chief minister’s post. “The congress leaders are not taking Rajasthan seriously as much as Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh. They are sure of party’s handsome chances to form government. But, their concern is to keep senior most leaders  ‘happy’ so that the unity remains intact and polls prospects remain undamaged. Hence, the party high-command is buying time to decide name of all committees while names heading similar committees have already been finalised in neighboring state Madhya Pradesh which will go to poll with Rajasthan in December,” said another leader.

Third power centre

If CP Joshi gets the post then he would emerge as the third power centre in the state, which currently revolves around AICC general secretary (organisation) and two-time CM Ashok Gehlot and PCC chief Sachin Pilot.
