Congress may refuse the Lok Sabha tickets to those who lost the Assembly elections held in December last. Also, the party is not likely to consider candidature of sitting MLAs barring a few who wield strong clout in their respective areas.

The ruling party has intensified exercise to draft panels of candidates for the parliamentary elections due in April-May. By middle of March a few candidates may be declared as well.

Chief minister Ashok Gehlot, PCC chief and deputy CM Sachin Pilot, Rajasthan incharge Avinash Pande along with senior leaders, ministers have already deliberated over the candidature  by taking feedback from local leaders earlier this month in marathon meetings.

Congress faces severe factionalism that could mar poll prospects of the party in the coming elections. Therefore, the party is focused to field strong and ‘accepted’ candidates for the Lok Sabha polls in order to keep the party united. The leaders who lost Assembly are not being considered for LS polls so others could not object on their candidature.

Also, sitting MLAs will not be a priority for party in order to give opportunity to others. But a few sittings MLAs and leaders who lost Assembly polls might be some exceptions. For instance party shall field Manvendra Singh, son of former external minister Jaswant Singh, who lost election to ex-CM Vasundhara Raje. He may be the candidate from either Barmer-Jaisalmer or Jodhpur.

Similarly, ex leader of opposition Rameshwer Dudi who lost his Nokha seat may be given ticket from Churu or Bikaner. Subhash Maharia from Sikar and Bhanwar Jitendra Singh, who did not contest Assembly polls, are being considered. Gehlot ministers Harish Choudhary and Lalchand Kataria may be fielded from Barmer-Jaisalmer and Jaipur rural respectively which they represented earlier.
