As the poll date is nearing, the candidates are aggressively campaigning and many have thrown caution to the air thus landing into legal soup. One such leader is Congress candidate from Vidhyadhar Nagar Sitaram Agarwal against whom a complaint has been filed for getting published in a newspaper that BSP candidate Madan Beniwal has extended support to him.

“The BSP candidate has filed case against Agarwal. The probe is in going on this matter while we have sent a notice to the newspaper seeking clarification,” said Ratan Singh, investigating officer with Muralipura Police station where complaint has been filed.

According to police, a ‘fabricated’ note was issued in the media on Sunday stating that Beniwal has extended his support to Congress candidate Agarwal. It was stated on account of Beniwal that he finds Agarwal fit for the development of the area and hence he should win the election with his support. After reading the news piece, Beniwal rushed to the police station and filed a plaint. He called it a conspiracy and demanded a through probed into it, talking to the media. Beniwal could not be contacted for comments despite several attempts on phone but the police confirmed the plaint.

Vidhyadhar Nagar seat faces a triangular contest with Vikram Singh Shekhawat, two times Congress candidates, turning rebel and contesting as an independent. His contest is feared to split traditional votes of Congress that may trouble Agarwal. In this backdrop, the BJP candidate and sitting MLA Narpat Singh Rajvi, son-in-law of late vice-president Bhairon Singh Shekhawat is at ease and his only conern is that anti incumbency does not harm his polls perspective. Prime minister Narendra Modi rally in Vidhyadhar Nagar may also improve Rajvi’s chances.
