Congressmen on Monday hit the city streets to protest against the inflated price of fuel. Accusing the Modi government of hiking prices post-Karnataka assembly election, the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee (RPCC) chief Sachin Pilot has demanded the government to slash taxes on petrol and diesel.

“Since BJP led government came into power, it is working on a policy to hike fuel prices day by day. The saffron party fought the election, sought votes from the people promising to control fuel prices which it forgot when started to rule. Ironically, the crude oil prices at the international level have been slashed drastically compared to the UPA rules. There is no relief and people are being robbed by the government,” said Pilot.

Congress leaders and workers staged a protest at Collectorate Circle. They shouted slogans and burnt effigy of Modi Government, accusing it of breaking common man’s spine while burdening with regular hikes without any break.

The only relief from the continuous hike they got was when the campaigning for Karnataka election was on, they alleged, demanding the fuels under GST ambit.

Pilot blamed the Centre’s dynamic pricing policy for the unexpected hike. “Instead of giving relief to the people, the government is levying 47 percent taxes on petrol and 38 on diesel. The unexpected hike has caused inflation on other goods and services as the transportation turned costly too,” added Pilot.
