Congress accuses BJP of violating model code, approaches CEC

A delegation of Congress leaders including Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee Secretary Sushil Sharma met Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) OP Rawat and election commissioner Sunil Arora in New Delhi on Tuesday, complaining of violations of model code of conduct by BJP during campaigning of the bypolls.

Demanding strict action, a memorandum regarding complaints was handed over to the election officials too. In the communique the Congress leaders cited several examples of BJP violating code of conduct. The party alleged that BJP government is misusing government machinery in Alwar, Ajmer Lok Sabha and Mandalgarh and several officers including police are openly working as BJP’s agent. The government has made some populist announcements which also qualify as violation of the rules, said the memorandum. Sharma claimed that Rawat assured action in this regard.
