No parking zones would soon come up for vehicles in the busy markets of the Walled City. An underground passage for traffic movement between Ramniwas Bagh till up to Zorawar Singh Gate via Johari Bazaar is also being planned to regulate traffic inside the Walled City.

The proposals were given nod by chief minister Vasundhara Raje who reviewed the progress of works, schemes and plans proposed and executed by the urban housing and local bodies departments in a marathon meeting held on Wednesday.

An official present in the meeting told DNA that CM wanted solutions to traffic woes inside the congested Old City when these schemes were put on the table.

But one of the important suggestions that was approved by the chief minister was to provide a uniform view of the city to a tourist landing at Jaipur Airport. It has been decided that the facade of all buildings on the stretch between the Jaipur Airport to the point where it touches the Jawahar Circle shall maintain a uniform look, an official said. It was also proposed that no commercial activity shall be allowed on this stretch.

“No commercial activity, be it hotel or shops, shall be permitted in future. A common facade has been proposed, which needs to be adopted by the residential buildings situated enroute,” said the official.

The CM has directed local bodies officials to work out a plan introducing no parking zones inside the markets of the Walled City. It was also proposed to draw out a plan to engage the locals in ensuring that the visitors and traders must park their vehicles outside of the Walled City. Pending plans of introducing battery-operated vehicles in the markets and adjoining areas have been proposed to ferry visitors, tourists and traders. “This would truly be a green initiative controlling pollution in the packed Walled City,” said the official.
