Chief minister Vasundhara Raje on Friday laid the foundation stone and performed Bhumi Puja at the site of the multi-specialty medical college-cancer hospital to be constructed by Bharat Vikas Parishad on the Baran-Chittor four-lane road in Kota.

The hospital will be constructed in a land measuring over 12 lakh square feet and the cost of construction will be a whopping Rs 400 crore.

Terming the construction of multi-specialty medical institutes as a result of the party’s big dream, Raje called upon the people to dream big during a speech at the event.

Stating that until the people are educated and in sound health, the state cannot see the path of progress, Raje pointed out the benefits of the Bhamasha health insurance policy or Bhamasha Swasthya Bima Yojana (BSBY).

At least 61 private and government hospitals of the state under BSBY are providing free medical and health services to the people, Raje said and added that works worth Rs 1,300 crore in the medical-health sector are being undertaken and Rs 500 crore medicines are being provided.

Stating that medical insurance claims worth Rs 60 crore have been cleared and over one lakh people benefited under the scheme so far, Raje said, “I am pleased that the scheme has benefited so many people of the state.” Stating that the state government is committed to providing best medical and health services to the people, Raje said 16 hi-tech medical colleges, including eight private medical colleges, are currently functional in state.

Five of the eight new medical colleges in Bharatpur, Bhilwara, Churu, Pali and Dungerpur were on Thursday granted permission by the Medical Council of India (MCI) to begin operations, Raje said and assured that work in three other places – Sikar, Dholpur and Barmer would commence soon. Sixteen model public health centres have come up in the state and work for 11 other such PHCs has been taken up, Raje added.
