Chief minister Vasundhara Raje on Friday said that it was the responsibility of the government to honour freedom fighters who went to jail during the emergency and her government has fulfilled this responsibility.

Addressing a conference organised by the Defence Forum, Raje said it was the BJP government that gave the status of freedom fighters to people who were imprisoned during emergency.

During the meeting Raje was honoured by 51kg garland. Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union minister PP Chaudhary, MP Narayan Panchria, MP Ramanarayana Dudi and other ministers were also present. Raje, on the second day of his Jodhpur visit, met people from different regions, representatives, communities and organisations.

With the establishment of political and cast equations, Raje has turned the tide in favour of the BJP in the Ashok Gehlot bastion. Trying to put a united front, Raje was accompanied by Gajendra Singh Shekhawat at various functions. Despite, Raje’s opposition to Shekhawat’s appointment as the state BJP president, her body language did not reveal she has any differences with Shekhawat.

In fact, she arrived in Jodhpur on Thursday, Shekhawat was at the airport to greet her and after he was seen with her at very function she attended and the meeting she addressed. At the Saran Nagar programme both were sitting on the same sofa and talking each other.

All through second day, she was busy taking part in social and religious activities. She also met people and heard their grievances.

Raje’s entire two-day exercise is aimed at making inroads in the Ashok Gehlot’s stronghold. She took this opportunity to convey to the people that she was pro-Jodhpur and was very much interested in the development of the Marwar region.
