The picture was unclear even on Friday over who would be the new Rajasthan BJP chief. Various rounds of meetings have been held so far between the state and central BJP leaders since the past three days in New Delhi.

Sources informed that seeing the attitude of the Central leadership, it is almost certain that Union Minister of State for Agriculture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat will be the state BJP President.

Though there was no formal announcement till Friday, but the sources in the know how of the matter claimed that the Central party leadership has thrown all its weight behind Shekhawat and will not accept any other name for the post.

Chief minister Vasundhara Raje on Friday paid a visit to National Vice President Om Prakash Mathur and the two held discussions for about two hours. She met Mathur on Friday afternoon at his residence which surprised many within the political circles. According to sources, Raje reached Mathur’s house at around 10 in the morning. Raje also had lunch with Mathur. Sources say that Raje has also sought time to meet PM Narendra Modi. On the other hand, MP Kirori Lal Meena too met Rajnath Singh at his home.

The Central BJP has given the task to resolve the state president issue to Singh. Singh is in the role of mediator between the Central leadership and Raje on the issue.

On Thursday, Raje had met Rajnath Singh where she told him about her opinion about the state president.

During the discussion, name of Kirori Meena, was also forwarded for post the post of state president by Raje camp. But the Central leadership wants to make Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat as the state president. It is worth mentioning that Ashok Parnami had resigned from the post on April 16. The BJP leadership has not yet been able to select the new state president.

Even after nearly two months since Parnami’s resignation, the name of the new state BJP chief has not been declared due to caste equations and pressure politics.

The reason for this delay is said to be the conflict of interest between chief minister Raje and the Central leadership. Raje is said to be pressurising the Central leadership to make her favourite person as party’s state head while the top leadership is in favour of Shekhawat for the same.
