At a time when the police are on high alert due to International Yoga Day on June 21, two unidentified scooter-borne men on Wednesday robbed a bank cashier and his aide of Rs 8 lakh on the Bhamasha Mandi overbridge in Anantpura police station area as the money was being shifted to different branches in the city.

According to police, Giyarsiram, the cashier of Baroda Rajasthan Regional Rural Bank’s Kansuwa branch, along with the bank’s contractual employee, Devprakash, was on his way to deposit the money at the bank’s Bhamasha Mandi branch on Tuesday afternoon.

The bank employees were riding a motorcycle when two youth aged 24-25 years came from behind on a scooter and snatched the bag from Devprakash who was riding pillion. Giyarsiram told the police that whenever the cash deposited at the Kansuwa branch crossed the Rs 5 lakh mark, it was sent to the Bhamasha Mandi branch. The robbers were most likely aware of this as the crime was committed 15 minutes after the cashier left the branch in Kansuw , police said.

Although, the identity of the robbers is yet to be ascertained, police have registered a case and initiated investigation. “The accused have not been arrested and no clue regarding their identities has surfaced so far,” Sub Inspector Ramswaroop at the Anantpura police station said.
