Assistant commandant Jitendra Singh had only recently completed his doctorate in Public Administration on the topic – Role of BSF in Internal Security. According to the faculty and the fellow research scholars at the University of Rajasthan, he was a unique combination of brains and brawns and had a keen aptitude to explore the academic frontiers just as he had the will to secure the territorial boundaries of his beloved nation.

Department officials and other students remembered the assistant commandant as joyful and a great motivator who helped those facing hard times. “He was very friendly and sensitive to people’s problems. But he had a daring streak in him and would casually tell us that he would always prefer to be in the front during skirmishes,” Dr Ashok Singh, head of the department, Department of Public Administration, University of Rajasthan, told dna.

“I remember him telling us that jawans always fight in the battle, but I would always be ahead of them and lead them,” Singh added. He was in love with his nation which reflected in the choice of his work for the doctorate thesis.

Exploring the role of Border Security Force in the nation’s security as an academic interest was his idea and he pursed that to the finish line. Sources close to the martyr said that he was involved in charity in the city. “Whenever in Jaipur, he used to frequent Apna Ghar at Mansarovar, Malviya Nagar and Galta Gate,” a person close to him said.
