There is a likelihood that prior to Rajasthan assembly elections slated in the year end, Vasundhara Raje government can throw a trump card by introducing reservation for divyangs. If the plan takes shape, there is great deal of a chance that the votes of 80 lakh people will directly get affected.

As confirmed by Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Arun Chaturvedi, the file related to providing  4 per cent reservation to divyangs in Panchayati Raj and body elections has already reached CM Raje.

Given that the demand for reservation has been persistent from Divyang community in Rajasthan, it is being believed that this time they won’t be left disappointed by the government. In the Gehlot government too, they had made a plea for reservation, but the matter was not discussed and remained confined to the files.

This time, the file has reached the CM via officers and ministers, which is a strong indicator that the state government might implement reservation for divyangs before the assembly elections. According to 2011 census, there are about 16 lakh divyangs in the state.

Chaturvedi is also strongly advocating for the reservation and said that the government is completely serious about it.

National vice-president, Disability Rights Association, Hemant Goyal, who is fighting for the cause from years, said that divyangas getting reservation will be a great source of motivation for them. If things fall in place, this will help the community to be a part of mainstream.
