Bundi markets shut, 11 arrested after Ramnavami stone pelting

Without a prior call for a bandh by the organisations, shops and business establishments remained closed throughout the day.

Markets in Bundi remained closed on Monday to protest against the stone pelting incident late on Sunday night at a Ramnavmi procession in the Meira Gate area of Kota. However, later the situation became normal with a few incidents of tyre burning at some places. Police have lodged separate cases following eruption of tension in the city and arrested five persons from a particular community and six others. Kota range IG Vishal Bansal reached Bundi city on late Monday morning and reviewed the situation. Without a prior call for a bandh by the organisations, shops and business establishments remained closed throughout the day. But emergency services and shops of a particular community remained open.     

The situation in Bundi city turned a bit tense after some youths of a particular community erected a green flag over the rooftop of old city’s Kotwali building where the throne of Raja Bhav Singh is situated in Tilack Chowk area of the city. The situation was, however, immediately controlled by the police and the district administration. A green flag was dismantled and handed over to the people of a community.

Two processions, one of Chath Sharif Chadar and another one of Ramnavmi were on Sunday scheduled to be taken out throughout the main markets of the city in the afternoon and late evening, respectively.When the Ramnavmi procession was being taken out late last evening, some unidentified persons pelted stones at the procession while it was passing through the Tilak Chowk area.

Later, when the procession reached Meira Gate, a large number of people from a particular community attempted to stop the procession demanding it be diverted. But the police let the procession go on by making a human wall.  Police have lodged various cases in connection with stone pelting over the Ramnavmi procession last night, SP of Bundi Yogesh Yadav said. 

Two Cops Injured

At least two police personnel sustained injuries after a group of a particular community pelted stones at a Ramnavmi procession while it was passing through the Chawani area under Gumanpura police station area of Kota city late on Sunday night.  Police have booked 20 to 25 persons under various sections of the IPC.
