The BJP may not repeat at least 70 sitting MLAs in assembly elections next year. Based on a survey report indicating poor performance of these MLAs, the party is likely to follow Gujarat model where as many as 70 sitting MLAs were not given tickets in this election.
Though, assembly elections are almost a year away but the ruling party has begun its ground work. Two surveys have been conducted to assess MLAs performance and winnability. One survey was done at chief minister’s level.
According to sources, the survey was conducted in all assembly segments and feedback was taken from people about performance of local MLA. Sword is hanging on around five dozen legislators who are unlikely to win if fielded again.
The party will give tickets to only those who have strong grip in their areas. Other parameters include their public image and rapport with local party organisation.
The axe may fall on three each in Tonk, Ajmer and Nagaur. Two in Bhilwara
