BJP claims that the issue of triple talaq won it Muslim women votes in UP. But recent protests of Muslim women in Rajasthan has increased problems of saffron party, which is already grappling with anti incumbency and the anger of Rajputs and few other communities

Barely a year back in the neighbouring state of Uttar Pradesh, BJP decimated all opposition parties together to register one of the biggest victories in assembly elections. Even Muslims specially women are said to have voted for the saffron party as 62 out of 82 Muslim dominated seats were pocketed by the BJP. The ruling party termed it the victory of Muslim women who voted in favour of BJP's reformist agenda of the abolition of triple talaq. But it doesn't seem to work well in Rajasthan where thousands of Muslim women like Razia Khatoon (name changed) are protesting against the triple talaq Bill which, BJP claims that, will bring gender equality in the community. The silent protest called on by All India Muslim Personal Board is a loud warning to the ruling BJP as the state goes for election at the year-end.

Stung by major drubbing in the recently held byelections, BJP is on a look out for some me major chunk of votes. With Rajput and Brahmin community seem to be frittering away, the saffron party is banking big on Muslim women votes that  did the trick in accessation to the throne in UP.  However, the recent protest-processions first in Jhunjhunu, a couple of days back, followed by Jaipur has up the antennae of BJP poll managers, specially PWD minister Yunus Khan who failed to win votes of minorities in the recently held bypolls.

"First deaths on account of Cow Vigilantism in Alwar and now the triple talaq protest, BJP has little left to woo Muslim votes. Even the secular face of Raje is likely to be difficult in drawing votes from minority," said Ramazan Khan, a Muslim leader.

AIML gives memorandum to the Guv

The women wing of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPL) gave memorandum to the Governor Kalyan Singh condemning the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2017. Yasmeen Farooqui member of AIMPLB, said that the Bill is against Sharia law.

"Marriage and Divorce in Muslims are social matters. The Bill is against the social norms. It gives special powers to state to imprison Muslim men for up to 3 years over triple talaq pronouncement. It's interference of religious rights granted by the constitution. Do you think this will help in empowering Muslim women socially and financially," she asks.

Meanwhile, Muslim women brought out a silent procession from Ramganj Bazar to Muslim Musafir khana passing through the walled city and Ghatgate. The procession culminated into a rally which was addressed by Muslim leaders opposing the Bill.
