As an aggressive Congress brings the fight to BJP’s court in Rajasthan, the ruling party has rolled out a “3-4 attack formation”. A three-point analysis of party president Amit Shah has been formulated for selection of candidates, while a four-stage campaign is being rolled out to turn the tide in favour of the party, a highly-placed BJP office bearer told DNA.

“The BJP campaign has already completed its two stages and a change in public perception for the better is already visible. The coming stages will ensure that the BJP wins this election with a comfortable majority,” the senior BJP leader shared the party’s insight into the campaign strategy.

Amid issues of anti-incumbency and internal dissent within the party, the BJP in Rajasthan is counting heavily on its cadre management and a new trend of social engineering. The first stage of its election campaign has already arrived in the form of worker meetings held by party state president Amit Shah, these meetings envisages to associate the worker directly with the party ‘irrespective of the local leader’.

The second stage takes it to the next level by directly associating with the ‘beneficiaries’. A state-level event was presided over by prime minister Narendra Modi to emphasise on the need to connect with the beneficiaries directly.

“A strong cadre assures that worker at the booth will remain attached to party even if the local leader chooses to dissent or stands replaced. Also, the local leaders are less likely to break away from party if their down-links remain loyal to the party,” the BJP leader tried to impress upon the relevance of worker meets. He assured the ‘beneficiary politics’ will go the distance to counter the traditional caste equations.

“These beneficiaries will fetch us votes from those areas and locality that have traditionally known to have voted for the Congress. Results will show that the direct beneficiaries will vote above caste and community equations,”  the leader adds with enthusiasm.

According to BJP leaders, both the above stages have been implemented successfully in the state. They, however,  added only a little advantage to BJP side and in order to turn the situation in favour of the party, the star campaigners will address public meetings.

These meetings are not only expected to create an impact locally, they will be planned to convey a strong social message across the state. The fourth stage will arrive on the day the state goes to poll, it will ensure that most of its voters arrive early at the polling booths on the D-Day.

The BJP is banking heavily on social media techniques and has developed a strong base of party workers which it inherits from the RSS. While the party leaders maintain their pattern of worker cadre ‘cannot be replicated’, they have not been shy to borrow other means of propaganda and even candidates from the rival parties.

As long as it works the BJP has been putting in all efforts together to retain its government at Rajasthan. The series of measures comes at a time when most polls have indicated that Congress could be back in power in state.

3-POINT MANTRA

Understanding that years of governance have lead to anti-incumbency at state and constituency level, the party national president had the selection criteria boiled to three core conditions. The first was the factors that helped a candidate register victory in the past. The change in pattern of social engineering of the constituency, and third came in as the stand of the opposition party.
