Now, people in Bhilwara and its neighbouring districts can purchase packaged cow milk as Bhilwara dairy has started selling of packed cow milk in the market. Bhilwara Zila Dugdh Utpadak Sahkari Sangh, a co-operative union of milk producers affiliated to Rajasthan Co-operative Dairy Federation (RCDF) is the only second dairy board in the state, after the one in Bikaner, which is providing packaged cow milk in the market.
“Our dairy is selling the cow milk at Rs 40 per litre and it is available in half litre packs,” Rampal Jat, Chairman, Bhilwara dairy said. “It was decided in 2016 that cow and buffalo milk will be made available for consumers separately at dairy booths. Now we have installed a Real Time Polymer Chain Reaction machine with the cost of Rs 8 lakh. This machine, on the basis of DNA test, will categorize cow milk separately from the total milk we are collecting from different co-operative dairy societies across the district. Societies have been directed to collect the cow and buffalo milk separately,” he added.

“With the financial assistance form National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), a new processing plant having capacity to process 10 lakh litre milk will also be established. It will cost around Rs 75 crore. We are planning to establish a new plant for indigenous cow milk as well,” said Jat.
Bhilwara dairy is also planning to introduce Cow Ghee in the market by this Diwali. In the efforts to make the board economically self-sustainable, the dairy is planning to start packaging of other milk products like flavoured milk, buttermilk, lassi and cream. These products will be packed and sold in 200 ml packs.
