A gang from Bharatpur is looting people in the name of selling cars at nominal prices via OLX. The gang has been carrying out its activities in Kaman Police Circle (Mewat) in Bharatpur and Agra-Jaipur National Highway where the unsuspecting buyers are asked to come in the area and then they are looted at gunpoint upon their arrival. More than 100 people from Telangana are reported to have become victims of this gang in the past three months.

While speaking about the case, ASP Bharatpur Dharmendra Singh informed that to avoid the occurrence of such cases in the state, the police are putting warning boards at several places. The police have set up warning boards in 20 places including bus stands, UP-Haryana-Rajasthan borders and other public places. In addition, the police have sent a notice to the OLX Company too.

In the notice, the police have instructed the company to develop a security system to avoid fraud sellers and also follow the guidelines of IT Ministry. Moreover, they have advised the company to put contact numbers of related police stations on the advertisements relating to buying and selling of cars on the website, so that the people are not victimised by frauds.

After the notice sent by the police, the officers of OLX company reached Bharatpur and said that they will work towards fixing the loopholes in their system. In more than 100 cases reported in the matter, most of the victims were looted at gunpoint in the name of selling cars.

The Bharatpur Police has appealed to the residents to check the advertisements properly before going to buy a car at cheap prices as there could be a plot to loot them. Also, they have asked the people to inform the police beforehand about the same so that the criminal activities can be avoided.

Firm Notified

The police have also asked OLX to notify the police regarding the uploading of fake ads on their website. The location of putting the ad on the website cannot be obtained, which is one of the main reasons people are becoming victims in many cases.
