A Muslim family in Kalyanpura village in Barmer district has alleged arbitrary action by local administration in taking charge of their land and giving it to the neighbour. The BPL family is living on the said land for the last over 40 years and had ownership documents. Their homes made under Indira Awaas Scheme and PM Awaas Scheme are also on the same land.

The family is accusing the local administration of working under political pressure, creating false records and pressurising them to sign an agreement and hand over a strip of their land. The administration, on the other hand, says the family is in possession of land through fake documents and all actions are in accordance with court orders.

The matter relates to the land of one Daood Khanon and his four sons. Three of the sons have constructed homes under Indira Awaas Scheme and PM Awaas Scheme on the land. The family alleges that fake documents were created and a case was filed to take away most part of their land, including the part where their homes are made.

According to Daood’s son Habib Khan, “The administration has moved JCB and broken our boundary. We have ownership documents for the land on which our houses exist for the last 40 years. There has been some manuplation in the records and a case was deliberately filed to get the land vacated.” “We were pressurised to reach an agreement. Now, the land that they want to take charge of is more than what we agreed to. This will demolish our homes and we have no place to go after that,” Habib Khan told DNA.

“The family of Khan fabricated documents with the help of sarpanch and they are illegal occupants. All action by administration is in accordance with law and court agreement,” said  Bhagirath Choudhary,  SDM Balotra.

Activist reacts

Reacting on the matter, social activist Ameen Kayamkhani said, “The family is poor and cannot bear political pressure. If they have fake documents then why is there no action against them, and most importantly what is the rehabilitation plan for the family.”
