Barmer college to offer petroleum as subject

With Barmer refinery and petrochemical complex coming up in Pachpadra, plans are being made to give maximum benefits to the people from this venture by imparting them technical education which will create employment opportunities for them in future.

Plans are being made to teach petroleum subject to students in Barmer engineering college which will not only benefit the students to find employment opportunities in Barmer refinery but also in other refineries in the country.

Sources in the department of technical education informed that proposal has been sent to the government for the same and if approved, the students from next session will study engineering in petroleum subject too.

“The proposal is yet not approved and process is on. We have submitted it to the government ,” said an official. Currently 60 seats are planned for this course which will be taught from next academic session if the proposal is accepted. Sources said that after passing out of college, the students will have a bright future in the industry and can get opportunity not only in refinery in Barmer, but in any refinery across the country.

The college is offering other subjects too and is affiliated to Bikaner technical university. The idea is to promote locals and interested youth who wish to make a career in the refinery sector.

The mood of the locals is also upbeat with so much developmental work related to refinery taking place in Barmer and in nearby areas.

Meanwhile, tenders for various other works related to refinery have already been issued.
