In view of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s death, Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje has cancelled the second phase of her pre-poll tour across the state - Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra - and left for Delhi. Raje was scheduled to begin the tour on Thursday morning, but she instead left for Delhi. Raje reached AIIMS where the former PM was admitted directly from IGI airport. Governor Kalyan Singh has also left for Delhi.
Raje’s yatra, scheduled to tour Bharatpur division over four days, was to begin on August 16. It was to travel across districts in Bharatpur division over four days taking a two day break in between.
As per another official release, the yatra has be rescheduled to begin on August 20. Detailed tour plan is yet to be announced. However, it is being believed that the yatra to Bharatpur division could be limited to two days and could be held on August 20 and 21. The Bharatpur leg of the yatra was scheduled to travel across Sawai Madhopur, Karauli, Bharatpur and Dholpur. Gurjar community had threatened to oppose and halt the yatra when it entered Karauli. Also Congress MLA and erstwhile royal from Bharatpur Vishvendra Singh had announced that he would be meeting Raje during her yatra on her stage and inform about the pending development works in his constituency.
Former prime minister and BJP patriarch Atal Bihari Vajpayee, one of India’s most charismatic leaders, died here following prolonged illness on Today, AIIMS hospital announced. He was 93.
“It is with profound grief that we inform about the sad demise of former Prime Minister of India Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee at 5.05 pm,” the hospital said in a statement.
