Ashok Gehlot is said to have extended his regret for the said meeting 2 days ago on pretext of some prior engagement in Jodhpur.
Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot was conspicuous by his absence when the victorious team Rajasthan Congress visited 12, Tughlaq Lane and 10, Janpath, New Delhi to meet Congress President Rahul Gandhi and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi respectively. Congress state chief Sachin Pilot went along with former union minister C P Joshi, AICC General Secretary Mohan Prakash, leader of opposition Rameshwar Dudi, AICC General Secretary in charge Rajasthan Avinash Pandey and victorious candidates - Dr. Karan Singh Yadav, Dr Raghu Sharma and Vivek Dhakad.

However, in political circle people are finding it strange that Gehlot could not accommodate meeting Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in an officially scheduled meeting.
There are a couple theories swarming in the air. A section of party workers in Congress are speculating that Gehlot and Sachin after the by-election results have once again started singing different notes while others are saying that Gehlot deliberately kept himself away from accolades to let Sachin take the credit for the victory.
At the time when the high command is praising the state unit for this spectacular whitewash, people are amazed by Gehlot's absence.
"It's difficult to believe that Gehlot can skip meeting with high command to attend a social do at Jodhpur," said a party member.
Meanwhile, in a recent development Ashok Gehlot is being appointed chairman of the preparation committee of All India Congress Session scheduled this March either at Mohali (Chandigarh) or Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi. In that session, Rahul Gandhi will be formally elected as the new party president. Political observers feel that this is a clear indication for a likely powerful central role at AICC Headquarter. This also fuels a fresh speculation whether Gehlot is really in the race in Rajasthan or not? because gradually he is emerging as the friend, philosopher and guide to the new president Rahul Gandhi.
