Late on Wednesday night, the state government transferred sixteen officials of the Indian Police Services. Most postings have been done at positions that do not directly get involved in law and order related challenges. A section of the officials feel that the move has been made to facilitate the smooth working of cops who have a good understanding with their political bosses in the current state government.

IPS Janga Sriniwas Rao, who under the previous government served as the Jaipur Police Commissioner, was promoted to the rank of Additional Director General (ADG) under the previous government and given the charge of ADG – PHQ and then Railways. However, in the latest reshuffle, the official has been shifted to the position of ADG – Civil Rights.

Interestingly, under the previous Gehlot government, the official was not given a field posting and was shuffled from CID to State Crime Records Bureau to Telecommunication to finally as IG of the State Human Rights Commission from where he was brought to mainstream policing and appointed the Commissioner when the Raje government came to power.

IPS Malini Agarwal – who had been charged with field duty over the course of past  fives years of the BJP government led by former chief minister Vasundhara Raje where she served as Inspector General of police in Ajmer and Bharatpur ranges – has now been promoted to the position of ADG and given the post of ADG Reorganisation and Rules, considered a less-favoured posting by police officials.

Commissioner of Rajasthan Foundation – IPS SN Mehrotra – has now been shifted to the post of DG Rajasthan State Forensic Science Lab. In the first tenure of the Gehlot government, the official served in the capacity of SP of Alwar and Jaipur districts and also ended up serving as the DIG in Bikaner range. With the change of power in state, the police official served at various positions, which are not directly involved with public and mainstream policing. Under the previous government, the same official served as ADG in planning, modernization, administration and community policing and telecommunication and technical departments.

Recently appointed as Special Director General in the previous government – IPS NRK Reddy – who was handling the Law and Order in the state for the BJP government in Rajasthan was shifted to the position of Pro-Vice Chancellor of Sardar Patel Police University after the Gehlot government assumed power in December.

He has again been shifted to the position of DG Prisons. Reddy was handling the state’s Law and Order since June 2015. Interestingly, in the previous BJP government, the official served in the state in various capacities but left for serving in the central paramilitary forces after the Gehlot government was formed in 2008.

ADG Nina Singh, a well known name in the police circles and an 89-batch officer, has now been shifted from Community Policing to the position of ADG Railways. Singh has served at various capacities in her career and has extensive experience regarding CBI and central police services. She moves into the main playing field along with her spouse and principal secretary health, Rohit Kumar Singh.
