Asaram has filed appeal against life sentence in the Rajasthan High Court.
Asaram was sentenced to life imprisonment on 25 April 2018 by Madhusudan Sharma, judicial officer of the SCST Court. Shilpi alias Sanita Gupta and servant Sharad Chandra each were also sentenced to 20 years imprisonment.
They also have filed appeal in the High Court challenging the sentence. Justice PK Lohra’s court has admitted the appeals of these convicted, which was submitted by senior advocate Mahesh Bodha and advocate Nishant Bodha.
Judge Madhusudan Sharma had given a 453-page judgment. Now Shilpi and Sharad Chandra’s appeals will be heard by the single bench, while Asaram’s plea will be heard by a High Court double bench. After being convicted by the lower court, Asaram has been very cautious in filing the appeal in the High Court against his sentence. It has been reported that Asaram’s nominated lawyers from Jodhpur have produced separate drafts of appeals. The drafts have been sent to the famous lawyers of the Supreme Court and the appeal has been filed after incorporating their advice.
Meanwhile acquittal of Shiva and Prakash has been challenged and the hearing is expected next week.
