The residents of Devra Bada village of Dungarpur district have accused self-styled godman Asaram, who is in Jodhpur jail for a rape case, and his devotees of constructing an ashram by occupying 26 bigha of government land.
During a meeting, the villagers have also blamed the district administration in the matter. They have decided to carry out a protest as the matter is yet to be resolved.
The villagers said that only two bigha of land was allotted for Asaram’s ashram, but he and his devotees gradually expanded the ashram and captured the remaining 24 bigha land as well.
The foundation stone of the ashram was laid in the year 1998.
The villagers and the panchayat often complained to the district administration but due to political pressure, the administration did not take any action in the matter.
