Vice-Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Sarath Chandra visited the Sapta Shakti Command on Saturday, a few days before his retirement. The Vice-Chief, who is set to hang his uniform on May 31, bid farewell to the Command and met officers. Interestingly, the Vice Chief had commanded the brigade here and went on to become the General Officer Commanding in Chief (GOC in C) of the Command.

Lieutenant General Sarath Chand has had multiple associations with the Sapta Shakti Command. He commanded a Brigade in Jaipur at a time when the Command was newly raised and was the GOC-in-C of the Command before he moved to Delhi as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff in the year 2017. This visit was a quick nostalgic drive down the memory lane.

On being updated about the operational, training and administrative issues of the Command by the Army Commander, Lieutenant General Cherish Mathson, who incidentally is also his regimental officer and old school mate, General Sarath Chand expressed his admiration and appreciation for the pace and quantum of progress made in all spheres since he left the Command 2017.

Close association

‘I have been closely associated with this Command ever since it came into being and I can say now with absolute conviction that this youngest Command of the Indian Army has finally come off age,’ Sarath Chandra said.
