Twenty five days after gangster Anandpal was shot dead in an encounter with the Rajasthan Police personnel, the state government on Tuesday agreed to an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into his death. A section of the Rajput community has been agitating for the last many days demanding a CBI inquiry, which the government has denied so far.

After the government agreed to the CBI inquiry and six other demands of the community, the Rajput front has called off their Jaipur rally that coincided with national BJP president Amit Shah’s three-day state visit.

On Tuesday morning, around 11 am, a council of the community leaders met the Home Minister along with other members of the government. A marathon meeting between the council and the government ensued and around 2:30 pm the government finally agreed to select demands made by the community representatives.

The government will now send a recommendation to the CBI to investigate the encounter under FIR (number190/17) that was registered in Ratangarh police station in Churu.

The government will send another recommendation to the CBI to investigate the death of Surendra Singh (FIR number 238/17, registered at Ashok Nagar PS, Jaipur), the man from Malalsar village - who died in the bloody violence at Sanwrad on July 12.

Interestingly, one of the demands made by the agitators was also met wherein gangster Anandpal’s family had demanded that his daughter - Chinu - be allowed to return to her native village. The government has agreed that the authorities will not pose a trouble over her return from Dubai. Chinu had, in an exclusive interview to DNA, expressed her fears in the event of her return to Rajasthan.

The state government has also agreed to pay compensation to those who have died in the agitation or sustained injuries. The government has also assured the council that commando Sohan Singh’s family members would facilitate a meeting between Singh and his family. Singh is undergoing treatment at Medanta Hospital.

Later in the day, home minister Gulab Chand Kataria declared that the cops injured in violence in Sanwrad would also be provided with financial help. The government has offered one lakh rupees to those who were seriously injured and fifty thousand rupees to those who were wounded.

THE DEAL BREAKER

  • Sources said the government agreed to demand for a CBI probe keeping in view BJP president Amit Shah’s visit to Jaipur. He is on three-day visit from July 21, while Rajput rally was on July 22.

THE TROUBLE SHOOTER

  • Chief minister Vasundhara Raje’s trusted lieutenant Rajendra Rathore once again played a key role in bringing about the end of agitation by parlaying with the community representatives.
