Ahead of Guj polls, illicit liquor seized in Rajasthan

Rajasthan’s excise department has cracked a whip on illegal liquor trade in 6 districts of the state which are close to Gujarat. The network was unearthed by the officials while they were on duty to keep a tab on liquor trade in the state ahead of elections in Gujarat.

Rajasthan’s excise department has cracked a whip on illegal liquor trade in 6 districts of the state which are close to Gujarat. The network was unearthed by the officials while they were on duty to keep a tab on liquor trade in the state ahead of elections in Gujarat.

Sources informed that between November 15 and December 3, the department teams caught 8500 litre of IMFL while 70,000 litre of country liquor was also recovered.

Apart from this, 10,000 litre of spirit was destroyed by the team after taking action against the people transporting it.

Sources revealed that a truck carrying illicit liquor was also seized by the department a few days ago while 8 people have been arrested in these 6 districts.

Department officials informed that they have been asked to keep a tab on illicit liquor going to Gujarat and 6 check posts have also been established along with 6 mobile parties which have been designated to prevent any illicit liquor transport to Gujarat.

Parts of Barmer, Jalore, Sirohi, Banswara, Dungarpur and Udaipur are close to various districts of Gujarat.

Meanwhile, a review of law and order and liquor related activities was done by election commission on Tuesday.  Moreover, the officials from Rajasthan were also involved in the review exercise.

Officials from department of Home, ACS (Finance), commissioner of excise and other officials participated through video conference which was also attended by officials of other neighbouring states of Gujarat.

Directions to maintain law and order were issued by election commission to the officers of all these states.

Notably, on Monday itself, dry day was declared in parts of 6 districts close to Gujarat due to Assembly polls in Gujarat. The dry day will be observed from 5 pm on December 12 till the end of voting on December 14.

An order was issued by the department of finance (excise) regarding the same. The dry day will be effective in areas of Barmer, Jalore, Sirohi, Banswara, Dungarpur and Udaipu
